While here in the colonies we call a loaded march “rucking”, our former colonial overlords have a different, far goofier name for it. They call it yomping. And what better way to yomp than with the coolest desert camo pattern around and in boonie hat form.
Desert DPM originally consisted of subdued sand and khaki hues when it was first developed in the late 1980's. However, some rather intrepid Middle Eastern countries figured that the original four toned desert pattern worked pretty darn well. Thus the British had to replace the sand and khaki hues with a light brown on sand derivative. Something to do with a Storm in the Desert.
It comes with a shorter reinforced brim compared to the traditional jungle boonie. It also sports air vents to keep your noggin at optimal temperature. Biomechanics anyone? The added cherry on top is the “molle like” scrim holders around the band of the hat. That way you stay nice and hidden for your recce patrols to get your chicken tendies…
